Criminal Minds

criminal minds fiction: Exclave

Over the next few days I'll be posting random Criminal Minds snippets that I've dragged from the depth of my computer. Most are several years old and it's not ever a show I watched with any consistency so be warned. I should probably post them to a community somewhere... is there such a thing as a Criminal Minds fiction community? Maybe I'm too lazy to find out. In the meantime, if this be your pleasure, enjoy.

Summary: Depiction of a possible missing scene from Elephant's Memory. Set after Hotch sends Reid back to Owen's house to work with Morgan.

You can read it here (the pit).

music is the mediator ~ ludwig van beethoven

I love music.  Immensely.  In nearly all its varieties.  I pulled up my Raising Sand album today, an album that I really enjoy but haven't listened to in a while, and I couldn't help but wonder--Allison Krauss and Robert Plant.  What would Dean think about all this?

Sam

supernatural fiction: Willing

This is an earlier supernatural snippet which was originally posted over at the pit a long while back.  I'm bringing it over here as part of my endeavor to... bring stuff over here. :)

Based on reader response (hits, reviews, what have you) it's likely the least "popular" thing I've written in this fandom.  Oddly, it's one of my personal favorites.  I couldn't exactly tell you why, though after re-reading it to post over here, and though I only watched about half of the fourth season, I feel like it fits even more now than it did then.  It's a scattered piece, to be sure, kind of jumbled, not Shakespeare by any stretch of the imagination, and the concept was done before... probably done to death.  But I liked it.  I enjoyed writing it.

Of course, that's just me.

There's no accounting for taste or perception sometimes... ;D

Title: Willing
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer:  Not Mine
Story Notes:  Speculative Sam POV during the cabin confrontation in Devil’s Trap.
Characters:  Sam, Dean, John

Read it at The Pit.

Or, for a slightly cleaner version...

Sam and Dean

supernatural zine fic (excerpt): The First Wendigo

A while back, I wrote zine fic... even though I'd told myself I was not to do that anymore. :D

It was good, writing for a deadline again, and all involved with putting it together were wonderfully kind and fun to work with.  At some point, some of those wonderfully kind people encouraged and/or allowed us authors to post excerpts of our zine stories to the web.  Since I'm a slacker, I am only now getting around to it.

It's a shorter story, set pre-series, Sam just past fifteen with Dean the logical four years older.

The story is found in The Brotherhood 8.

Rating: PG-13

supernatural fiction: First Grade Fire Safety

Previously posted over at the pit... just trying to catch up on posting over here.

Story notes: Weechester drabble.

Disclaimer: No, the characters are not mine, and…

No, I’m not normally a drabbler— funny you should ask ;) —nor am I likely to become one on any sort of regular basis. Consider this a fulfillment of a personal goal. Words: 101

First Grade Fire Safety

-------------------------------------

The tears were thick and heavy and tacked all over Sam’s face. He had a rip in his shirt and blood below his nose. He pumped one foot back and forth, toe of his sneaker barely skidding the floor.

Mrs. Hobby stood, smiled kindly at Dean, and stepped out the door.

Dean dropped his backpack and sat in the cold plastic next to Sammy’s snuffling form. He had fire in his stomach and a hollow sensation everywhere else. Sam’s hot neck made his fingers feel icy.

Sam sniffed. “At recess… Josh said Mom was too stupid to stop, drop, and roll.”

news article: boy, 6, takes wheel after dad passes out

Echos of Dean anyone?  Seriously.  I want someone to write this story with tiny Winchesters in the stead.  It sets it up so perfectly.  Right down to the little brother in the back seat.

starsky and hutch

So, I don't know what the rules are about linking to fic you are about to recommend, therefore, if this is inappropriate, let me know.

I went diving for fanfiction this last weekend.  Starsky and Hutch fanfiction (if you didn't already pick up on that by the title of this entry) but I just wasn't connecting to any of it.  Some of what I started to read was well written, it just didn't pull me in, for some reason, or didn't have the depth of relationship I wanted to read about, ya know?

Until this.

The author's name is JoJo, found on the Bay City Library site.  The tones she creates and the storytelling itself are both really incredible.  Very well done.  My favorites are the Getting a Grip series and Straighten Up and Fly Right.  There is potentially disturbing content in each, so read with caution.

And also, I did some writing this weekend, off the cuff, frivolous, fanfiction writing on both the Supernatural wips.  They are so close to done it's frustrating, especially because I'm not going to be able to work on them again for a while, (hangs head).  Alas...

cold roads

home again, home again, jiggity jig

If the damn snow clears up, I'll be there in three hours.  Feels like a million years.  I'm out again Monday, but home for now is good.

The added theme from life on road these past few weeks has been flat tires.  Landing plane last week popped two on the left on touchdown.  The pilot corrected quickly, and they sent little buses to get us the rest of the way into the terminal.  Picked up a screw in my right rear tire on my six hour drive yesterday, borrowed a jack and got the spare on to find it riding low.  I got into the gas station all right, and the air seems to be holding.

Despite the busy, I've been averaging 300-500 words a day, which isn't much, but is consistent, though I lament to confess none of it has been focused on Supernatural, which I haven't been able to watch for an eternity, and sadly haven't really missed, haven't had the thought creep in of, It's Thursday, I wish I could be watching...

The two wips on fanfiction.net are nearly complete, but sitting in limbo as they've been for a while.  I need a few good solid days to myself to get them to the last of it.  And though they will be finished and posted complete, I may not get those few days for another grip.  I know some of you have sent pms on the subject.  This was the easiest way to get the word out for now.  I'll get to the individual replies, but maybe not for a few more days.  Thank you for the continued interest.  I know I suck at updates in the world of fanfiction, and that's not likely to change at the moment, thus all I can say is, yeah, things will get finished, I haven't forgotten...I still like writing these boys, and sometimes I wish I could live a little bit deeper in the fandom world.

In the meantime, home again, home again, jiggity jog.

Wish me luck on the road, for where I currently am they don't usually get snow, and there are no snowplows.

Awesome.

supernatural fiction: Five Questions

And still catching up...

Another random snippet from the hidden depths of my computer, circa 2006.

Title: Five Questions
Rating:
PG
Story notes: Since Jess’s birthday is Dean’s birthday too…Pre-series. Stanford Era. One-shot.
Characters: Sam, Jess, Dean, John, Mary, vaguely referenced background cannon characters and a few very vaguely referenced background OC’s.

Sam was quiet and contemplative, but every time Jess looked at him, he smiled—easy and innocent, like she hadn’t caught him thinking anything.” It’s Jessica’s birthday, she’s thinking about family and friends and the things Sam never says.

Not mine. Not profiting. Not trying to profit.

supernatural fiction: Empty Motel Rooms

Just catching up in this strange LJ land...

Does the formatting over here drive anyone else crazy, or is it just me?  Anyone have any tips?

Title: Empty Motel Rooms
Summary:
Dean hasn’t been called by his own name in what feels like an eternity. Pre-series. Stanford Era. One-shot.
Rating: PG
Characters: Dean, Bobby, Sam, John.

Random Notes: I am purging my computer, dragging out random stuff I wrote but never posted—organizing, deleting, and posting ;). This bit comes from somewhere in 2007, but as stated above, is set pre-series. It’s not very fancy, and the characterization and tone are a little different, which is why I never posted it, but it’s here for those who’d like to indulge. Read at your own risk, no lifeguard on duty.

And nope, the characters are not mine, and I'm still not making any money from them.

season four theories

I'm unspoiled beyond last week's previews, but, I'm also going to be totally, out-there speculating about the upcoming episodes, so, if you are not into that, don't click the cut.

esoteric question of the day

Not sure why I'm in an introspective mood, other than the fact that I've been running on empty for a month now, and tiredness begets strange thoughts, and this rather simple and old debate was brought up, and though I have never believed there is an exclusive answer (meaning I don't think one has to negate the other), I put it forth here:

Would you rather be liked, or respected?
